It has been a while since Scorsese touched base with his Catholic faith, and Silence promises to be a reflective exploration into evangelisation, persecution, and worship. The film will focus on a pair of Jesuit priests from Portuegel, who travel to Japan in search of their mentor, only to find the church has been driven underground and Christians are being persecuted sometimes to the point of death. Rumoured to take part are Daniel Day Lewis, Benicio Del Toro, and Gael Garcia Bernal, and if the film comes close to receiving the acclaim that the book it was based on received (written by Shusaku Endo), then Silence would make a lot of noise during awards season.   |

                | STARRINGAL PACINO, ROBERT DE NIRO (RUMOURED)
 RELEASE DATE2013
A biopic on Frank Sinatra always seemed ripe for Scorsese’s touch, so when it was announced that Scorsese will in fact direct Sinatra, fans of both great men rejoiced. Sinatra won’t be the commercial “He came, he conquered, he left” music biopics of yore, and will instead focus on the infamous crooners alleged relationship with the mob, effectively tying together Scorsese’s two best cinematic subjects: music & gangsters. No word on casting, yet Scorsese has made it clear that he wants none other than Al Pacino as Sinatra, and Robert De Niro as Dean Martin. Please, God, make it so.   | | | |
