Filmmaking tandem Glenn Ficarra and John Requa have quickly made a name for themselves with their two feature films I Love You Philip Morris and Crazy, Stupid, Love receiving high acclaim for their refreshing new take on the romantic comedy.
With that in mind, Matt’s Movie Reviews was curious to know just what are Ficarra and Requa’s favourite romantic comedies?
Enjoy!
What are your favourite romantic comedies?
J: The Apartment is the best romantic comedy ever made, in my personal opinion.
G: Jerry Maguire, Love Actually…
J: It Happened One Night is a great one.
What is it about The Apartment that makes it the greatest romantic comedy?
G: Great characters, great writing, great dialogue. It does the gamut of drama and the pathos in the comedy.
J: It’s like one part American romantic comedy, one part German nihilism. Which is what all of those Billy Wilder movies are like. They have this deep sort of nihilistic thread, and it gives it such great gravity and yet at the same time a very sweet movie about two lost people. It’s breathtaking. Kind of makes me feel like a failure when I watch that movie (laughs).
G: Thanks for bringing it up!
J: We’ll never clime to that height.
