College Road Trip is a gag inducing over the top mess of a family film.
It stars an over bearing Martin Lawrence (is there any other?) as James Porter, the Chief of Police and eerily over protective father to Raven-Symone’s (of Disney’s That’s So Raven) supposedly brilliant high school graduate Melanie Porter.
After James is informed that Melanie wishes to attend Georgetown University as supposed to his choice of college (which is only a 20 min drive away), James takes it upon himself to accompany Melanie on a road trip to her desired school. As expected one ridiculous and predictable situation after another befalls them as they learn to understand each other along the way.
If there is one thing to be said about College Road Trip, it is that Lawrence and Raven-Symone do suit each other well, since both exhibit poor acting skills which they over compensate with a steady routine of ham acting that consists of hysterical yelling, jerky mannerisms, bug eyed stares, mouths a-gap, and the frequent flailing of arms.
The fact of the matter is when an actor, or actors, are blown off screen by a house trained super pig and an even more than usually daggy Donnie Osmond, then perhaps a good hard look at said actor’s career is needed.
One can appreciate a morality driven family film, but not one devoid of wit and intelligence.
This critic urges all parents to not send their children to College Road Trip, as it is nutrient deprived junk entertainment which they should not feed their kids, and is the worst kind of family entertainment there is. |
