The life and career of notorious Hollywood leading man Val Kilmer is chronicled in Val, a documentary comprised of home video footage shot by Kilmer himself over the last 40 years.
Featuring Kilmer’s time on the sets of Top Gun, The Doors, and Batman Forever (among many others), Val also delves into the personal life of an often-misunderstood artist, whose reputation as a meticulous and difficult actor is matched by a vulnerability and charm to make for a complex human being.
Directed by Leo Scott and Tang Poo, and narrated by Kilmer’s son, Jack, Val features Kilmer suffering from the effects of throat cancer that has transformed his face and crippled his ability to speak. As such Val is a watch both compelling and sad, and a testament to a true artist and survivor.
