Based on the popular 1960s TV series, The Fugitive starred Harrison Ford at his frantic best as a man on the run after falsely convicted of killing his wife. With its mixture of soul tunes, auto carnage and wise ass comedy, The Blues Brothers has a little something for everybody.

Many didn’t know what to expect from Mel Gibson’s follow up to his colossal Passion of the Christ yet deliver he did with Apocalypto, a superb action thriller set in ancient Mayan times.

With the first two acts of the film setting up the introduction and destruction of a Mayan tribe, its third act was a thrilling chase scene as young warrior Jaguar Paw (Rudy Youngblood) escaping his sadistic captors and leads them on a chase through the jungle.

What follows is a bloody and electrifying adrenaline rush of a movie that confirms Gibson’s standing as one of the best action directors.

Tracking them both is Tommy Lee Jones as savvy sheriff Ed Tom Bell, who mourns the increasingly violent nature of the modern world.

Thrilling, violent and dark, this is a chase movie not for the faint hearted.

JAMES CAMERON

James Cameron’s two Terminator movies feature big stakes and even bigger danger, with powerful cyborgs from the future sent back in time to kill John Connor, the future leader of a human resistance movement poised to destroy the machines who have taken over the world.

The first Terminator starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as the first mechanical killing machine on a mission to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), the mother of John. Its sequel Terminator 2: Judgement Day upped the ante with Schwarzenegger this time playing the good robot, protecting teenage John Connor (Edward Furlong) from an even deadlier threat in Robert Patrick’s deadly liquid metal assassin.

Both films stand tall as thrilling sci-fi chase movies, combining the slasher stalker premise with the intelligent sci-fi and the big gun machismo of popular ‘80s action cinema.
