It
was a brisk winter's night at the Sydney premiere of The
Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which
was held at Greater Union George St. Cinema's in Sydney. Hollywood
leading man Brendan Fraser, along with co-star and burgeoning
Australian actor Luke Ford attended the event, and I was there
to get a quick word in with both actors.
INTERVIEW
WITH LUKE FORD
Matthew
Pejkovic: Welcome back to Australia!
Luke
Ford: Thank you very much!
MP: It has been quite a year for you so far. You had The Black
Balloon earlier this year, and a new Mummy film ready for release. You must be very happy with the way
things are at the moment?
LF: Yeah, I am really happy. If I was to sit back as a business
man and analyse my career, I would be pleased with how it has
progressed.
MP: What is next on the radar for Luke Ford?
LF: Well, there is a film called It's Plenty, which
is a civil war film. And then maybe a film in Ireland, which
is still up in the air, so I really can't talk too much about
it. But apart from that it's been pretty quiet because of the
strike in America.
MP: What are the chances of another Mummy film in
the future?
LF: Well, you know, it really depends on the success of this one.
MP: Maybe you can set the next film in Australia!? And if so, which
Aussie would you like to take on as a villain in an Australian
set Mummy film?
LF: An Australian actor! Maybe someone like Richard Roxburgh would
be fun.
INTERVIEW
WITH BRENDAN FRASER
Matthew
Pejkovic: Hi, Brendan. Welcome to Australia!
Brendan
Fraser: Hey, what's happening?
MP: Over the last few years you have focused primarily on more dramatic
films, such as Crash and The
Air I Breathe. But now you have returned
with two action oriented films in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon
Emperor and Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Is it fun getting
back to action roles after a few years of dramatic work?
BF: What can I say? It's exciting, it's what the people really come
and pay to see when they want these pictures. I have been asked
so often no matter where I travel, "When is there going
to be another Mummy movie?" Well, I finally got the call
7 years after The Mummy Returns. They told me "Where gonna
be shooting in China this time". Why not? We stepped out,
got access to the Terracotta warriors! We got Jet Li as the
baddie
.
MP: And what a baddie to have!
BF: Man! In China, it was like a prize fight, like a rumble in the
jungle between Jet Li and (The Mummy co-star) Michelle Yeoh.
Let me tell you, they were really excited for that one!
The
Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor stars Brendan Fraser, Jet Li, Maria Bello, Michelle Yeoh, and
Luke Ford, and will be released nationwide on the 11th of September
through Universal Pictures.
