In prison after the actions of the previous film, John J. Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) is released after he accepts an offer to help the Government in a top secret operation where he must return to the jungles of Vietnam and find conclusive proof that American soldiers have and are being kept in POW camps since the Vietnam War. Once in Vietnam, Rambo takes it upon himself to free the prisoners, going against direct orders to not engage with the enemy angering his superiors who leave Rambo behind. Now a prisoner of war once again, Rambo must find a way to break out, rescue the POW's and get them back home.
The movie that spawned multiple one many army action films, Rambo: First Blood Part II is a pointless and unnecessary sequel which was only made to cash in on the popularity of the first film.
In hindsight this is where Sylvester Stallone's career really made a turn for the worse. Granted this movie and its sequel made him millions, but there is no denying the fact that his reputation as a credible actor has forever been tarnished due to his incredibly poor choices with this sequel one of his biggest mistakes, the films sloppy acting and woeful dialogue leaving much to be desired while tarnishing the reputation of the much superior original film.
As an action film the movie is average at best, with explosions galore and a high body count (67 to be exact). Richard Crenna and Steven Berkoff both provide good performances (although I have no idea how Crenna could deliver some of his lines without throwing up) but unfortunately they cannot save Rambo: First Blood Part II from drowning in Stallone's ego.
