Benicio Del Toro has been tapped to play the main villain in the Star Trek sequel.

Star Trek director/producer JJ Abrams has officially offered the role to Del Toro who will join returning cast members Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana.

Unsurprisingly, Abrams has kept the plot and also the description of Del Toro’s bad guy a secret, even from Del Toro himself who was only given an outline of what he is expected to play. Eric Bana played the villain in the first Star Trek, a reboot which was a critical and commercial hit.

Del Toro has just finished filming his role as a drug cartel enforcer in Savages which is directed by Oliver Stone.
