Robert Downey Jr. will star in the franchise relaunch of Perry Mason with Warner Bros.

Based on the books by Erle Stanley Gardner made popular in the 1960s TV series, Downey Jr. will play the iconic defence attorney who takes on cases in the rough and tumble world of 1930s Los Angeles.

The script will be based on an original story written by Downey Jr.
